WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOUR FIRST PURCHASE FROM A FIREWOOD SUPPLIER

Nothing makes a home quite as cozy as a nice burning fire. If you will be getting firewood from a supplier this year, there are a few things you should consider. Let’s look at some firewood-buying tips before you get your first firewood haul.

Consider Where You'll Store Your Wood

Before purchasing firewood, you’ll want to decide where and how you’ll store your wood. In our experience, about 50% of our customers store the firewood inside their garage and 50% store it outside. Either way is perfectly fine. Here at Jay's Tree Care & Firewood, we feel whichever way is most convenient for you is what you would want to do. Jay's delivers all our firewood with a wheelbarrow so as long as we can get that to a convenient area (not too far or requires stairs), we will stack it for you. Please keep in mind if you do choose to store outside, we only recommend covering the top of the stack to keep the snow and rain off, which will also keep air flowing throughout the firewood. Ask a professional for advice if you're unsure where to store your wood.

Consider the Type of Wood You Want

Another important consideration will be the type of wood you should buy. At Jay's Tree Care & Firewood, we offer professionally split firewood sized to fit most fireplaces. You can also count on us for wood that's harvested through sustainable forestry practices. This wood is put through a wood tumbler to remove debris and then hand stacked on a pallet for the first six months before being moved into one of our four covered buildings for the final drying period to ensure clean and dry wood for every customer.

Consider the Type of Wood You Don't Want

There are also woods you should avoid for indoor fires. For example, you should avoid using pine or spruce. These woods can create creosote and it can cause chimney fires. You should also avoid using any type of wood that has been pressure-treated. This can release toxic gases into your home. A great firewood supplier will be able to offer better wood for use inside the home.
